Mental Health Care Access for Montanans
Understanding coverage rights, finding support, and navigating mental health care in Montana.
This toolkit was created to help practitioners, advocates, policymakers, and patients and families better understand mental health care access, coverage challenges, and the resources available to support equitable care across our state.
What is Mental Health Parity?
Mental health parity means insurance providers must cover mental health and substance use treatment in a way that is comparable to physical health treatment. For many Montanans, accessing mental health care is not always simple. Coverage gaps, provider shortages, long wait times and confusing systems can make getting care difficult, especially in rural and tribal communities. This resource was built to help break down those barriers, share real stories and provide tools to better understand mental health care coverage in Montana.
